Queensland
Women
for Yes
We believe in the power of storytelling and asked twenty leading Queensland women to contribute their personal stories in support of First Nations women to launch our #qldwomenforYES campaign.
A letter from Of One Mind
Heartbroken though we may be following the referendum result on Saturday, we know it is nothing compared to what you, our First Nations friends and colleagues, leaders and broader community will be experiencing.
Thank you for the courage and steadfast leadership you have shown; we hope you take some heart from the millions of Australians who did accept your invitation, including the 80,000 volunteers who turned out on Saturday. We acknowledge the increased cultural load you will have carried during this time.
In making the Voice proposal you did everything our system asked of you. You accepted a challenge from the country’s leaders, you consulted widely and carefully, you reported the views of the people, you took appropriate constitutional legal advice and you brought the proposal to the scrutiny of Parliament. You then asked us to walk with you. No one can ask more.
As devastating as this moment may be, we know it is only one moment in a long march for change and we will be here next time and the time after that, to support you in having your voice heard to find the right solutions for the progress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Australia and for us more broadly as a mature and unified country.
Our work seeks to unite women and girls across different walks of life and communities to make our society a fairer place. We always have and we will continue to put the voices of First Nation women and girls at the forefront of this work, believing that this is the only way we can truly create a gender just Australia – nothing in this outcome will change that view.
We will continue to use our small platform for this bigger purpose and wish to thank again all those women who shared their personal stories during this campaign.
Can we also share these helpful resources and tips from Diversity Council Australia which covers what organisations can do to support your people at this time.
