Monica Bradley
When I went to school I was "taught" that Captain Cook "discovered" Australia and my British ancestors saved Aboriginal people by "housing" them in camps and healing them with western medicine and education.
Thanks to the generosity of my many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander friends, colleagues, and mentors, I now know what I wasn't taught in school: Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders have inhabited Australia for over 65,000 years which is the oldest living culture in the world
The wisdom and knowledge of our First Nations peoples will help Australia thrive in the transition to a low carbon, inclusive and economically sustainable nation.
My ancestors removed Aboriginal people from their country in three ways, they sent them to "camps" like Yarrabah and Cherbourg, they hunted and killed them, or they indentured them to work "unpaid" for colonial pastoralists until 1968.
I have the honour to collaborate with several Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses that are using traditional knowledge and practices to solve complex climate, community and health issues which will benefit all Australians.
Vote YES for a better Australia for all.
Thank you to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders for your generosity and patience in enduring for over 65,000 years on this remarkable country, despite the ignorant and cruel treatment of the last 200 plus years.
Thank you for the offer that is the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
